Are We Witnessing the End of Cubicles?

It wasn’t long ago that the idea of action offices was introduced by an arts officer a few decades back. This developed and bloomed to become what we now know as cubicles. However, only a few years later, we are now wondering whether or not cubicles will vanish by the next year. Cubicles allowed for a separate working space and privacy while being a part of a collective working environment. These speculations have left many people feeling a bit edgy as

many workers feel more comfortable working in an exclusive space.

The culture of cubicles is not coming to an end; I mean you can still purchase HON cubicles, but it should be noticed that they are evolving. If you might have noticed, cubicles in modern offices are designed to serve many purposes as compared to their earlier versions. Today, cubicles allow for privacy as well as team interaction, it allows for isolation as well as a sense of belonging.

The sizes of the HON cubicles too have changed over the years. The earliest cubicles were large grids, accommodating more employees in one setting. Later on, this was reduced to smaller squares. Then came the designs of rounded wall shells, followed by long lines of desks facing in one direction towards the wall.

Modern office designs aim to utilize the floor space for better usage. The designs of modern cubicles tend to allow people to be seated in a compact manner, improving their productivity as a result. The structure is precise, making them cost-effective and economical too. Hon cubicles are designed and manufactured on the same ideas serving the modern concept of office furnishings.

The nature of the workforce is also changing. Today, each office has a demand for various types of employees, and each one of them has different requirements for giving the best output to the company. A freelancer may not demand so much privacy as a specialist would. This means that the arrangement and structure of cubicles needs to be as such that they are suitable for a variety of employees at the same time. They should grant privacy while not completely confounding the worker from interaction at the same time; they should work not only for the employees’ personal improvement at the workplace, but should also enhance the team’s productivity.

This is why we are seeing a variety of cubicles today as making a pair, a team, or even a cluster to help the employees collaborate and work in the comfort of their own sanctities can help improve productivity. Office furniture has also been introduced to incorporate newer furnishing concepts, such as acoustic and collaborative furniture, which have a specific purpose. Demands of businesses are changing and brainstorming sessions, discussions, and meetings have changed places from conference rooms and cubicles to acoustic and collaborative settings amidst the workstations, desks, and cubicles.

As the world evolves, corporate demands change and working styles are re-defined, the concepts of old office furniture would also get altered over time. In the coming years, the look of a modern office would not involve a typical HON cubicle design, for instance. Instead, a much more productive rendition of it would replace it.
