What Exactly Is Feng Shui? (And How to Pronounce It)
Feng Shui (pronounced “Fung Shway” or “Foong Shway”) is an ancient list of Chinese design principles. The Chinese words “Feng” and “Shui” relate to wind and water as elements, but also to good fortune and protection. See, you like where this is going!
The main concepts of Feng Shui exist to bring positive energy and wealth into a space. It can be applied to homes, offices, and landscaping. In our modern concrete jungle of employment, technology reigns supreme. But the staff experience is more important than ever, as a thriving economy encourages employees to seek positive work experiences, rather than just a paycheck.
The Basics of Feng Shui in Office Design
There are five primary elements represented in Feng Shui. See them in your office as:

- Fire – lighting, lamps, heaters
- Water – fountains, fish bowls, waterfalls, lush plants
- Wood – office furniture, bonsai trees

The idea is to balance these elements in your office. You probably have these elements represented all ready; it’s just a matter of having the same amount of each. You don’t necessarily need to have each component in the office. Even an image of the element is enough (a painting of a waterfall could represent water, for instance).
